New York City creates welcoming
communities of free support for everyone living with cancer –
women, teens and children – along with their families and
innovative program is an essential complement to medical care,
providing networking and support groups, workshops, lectures and
social activities, all
free of charge.
It began with a light of hope. Lee Rhodes, glassybaby founder, was fighting her third battle with cancer and raising her three small children when the first glassybaby was created in 1998.
More than 400 guests are expected to attend the 18th annual Gilda's Club NYC gala, Celebrating Our Family, at the Pierre Hotel on November 14 at 6pm. Gene Wilder, Emma Stone, Mandy Patinkin, and Alan Zweibel are honorary chairs of this long standing event which is expected to raise $850,000 for Gilda's Club.
Lawrencia was overdue for her annual mammogram and finally made an appointment in 2010. Expecting nothing wrong, she was shocked to get a call from the center requesting that she see her doctor. After a biopsy was performed, she was given the diagnosis of breast cancer. Feeling confused and the need to talk to someone after a second round of chemo, Lawrencia was referred to Gilda's Club
by a nurse oncologist.
