Our annual Celebration of our Latino Community (Una Celebración Para Nuestra Comunidad Latina) is a special event that brings together members of the community to reflect on their experiences and relationships made while at Red Door Community. It is a celebration that recognizes the vital role every member has in building and creating our unique community of individuals who are living with a cancer diagnosis, post-treatment, caregiving or grieving,
Almost 40 members of our community came together on August 15th and enjoyed food, music and a special performance from Flamenco Vivo.
Three member panelists took the stage and shared their powerful stories; Georgina spoke of her cancer diagnosis and participation in the Gilda Comes to You program at Mount Sinai Hospital; Eldy shared her post-treatment experience here at the Clubhouse; and Adriana spoke about joining initially for support as a caregiver and then transitioning to a bereavement group after the death of her husband. Although each member joined Red Door Community for different reasons, they all emphasized how invaluable having a community of support was to them.
Following the presentation, Flamenco Vivo led the group through a little singing, clapping, and of course, dancing. Thank you to everyone who attended and demonstrating that the core of our program is community.
