“The failure to address the very real psychosocial health needs of patients and their caregivers is a failure to treat that patient’s cancer, plain and simple.” Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report, 2007
Gilda’s Club NYC group and individual support groups are facilitated by licensed mental health professionals trained in our unique delivery of support. Through this program our members explore and share feelings and experiences related to their cancer circumstance: living with cancer at any stage, as family, friends and caregivers and those living with loss.
Our education program includes lectures facilitated by subject-matter experts. Topics from medical, legal, financial, cancer-specific issues/treatments, to alternative care help members acquire new skills and gather pertinent information to make informed decisions and communicate more effectively with their personal networks, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. These lectures are open to the public and do not require membership to Gilda’s Club NYC.
Healthy Lifestyle Workshops
Gilda’s Club NYC’s healthy lifestyle classes are led by professionals and certified volunteers. Engaging in a healthy lifestyle through exercise, nutrition, mind-body and expressive arts practices provides individuals with the tools to decrease their stress, increase resilience and adopt new habits which can directly enrich well-being and promote self-discovery.
We understand that members need a break from cancer sometimes – and that no one should face cancer alone. Social activities bring together members, families, and friends to strengthen their sense of community, reduce feelings of isolation and build friendships.
