Our Children & Teens Program

At Red Door Community, we recognize the impact that cancer can have on a family and especially on children.  We developed a program designed to meet the unique needs of children ages 5-12 with our Noogieland Program, and teens ages 13-17 with our Teen Program.

Noogieland | Children Ages 5-12

Noogieland is our program offering support for children ages 5-12 who have been diagnosed with cancer, have a loved one living with cancer, or are grieving the loss of a loved one to cancer.  The program includes Noogie Night support groups, educational and interactive workshops, Gilda’s Study Corner, and Club Sparkle.

Noogie Nights

Noogie Nights are supportive groups held on a weekly basis. They offer opportunities for discussion, interactive workshops including yoga and therapy dog visits, and more.  Supervised by a licensed clinician, Noogie Nights provide a safe environment for kids to share their feelings and build support.  They are scheduled at the same time as many of Red Door Community adult activities, so that comprehensive support can be provided to the whole family.

Gilda’s Study Corner

Gilda’s Study Corner provides homework help from a trained volunteer for one hour prior to their support group. This program was developed to help ease the burden of ensuring that homework is done by the end of the night.

Club Sparkle

This very special program provides week-long sessions of fun themes, healthy lifestyle workshops, arts & crafts, and lots of laughter during periods throughout the year when school is not in session (mid-winter recess, spring break, summer vacation). There is no fee for Club Sparkle, which includes all activities, lunch, and snacks for all participants.  Pre-registration is required as there is limited space.

Teens | Ages 13-17

The Teen Program at Red Door Community provides ongoing support for teens that have been touched by cancer in ANY way.  Teens Connect, the “It’s Always Something” Teen Essay Contest, and special events provide various opportunities for teens throughout the course of the year.

Teens Connect

Teens Connect is our weekly support group for teens that have been touched by cancer in any way. It provides an opportunity for discussion, socialization, and various specialized workshops and is facilitated by a licensed clinician.

Junior Associate Board (JAB)

The JAB is a volunteer opportunity open to all teens looking to make a difference. Their mission is to promote awareness of Gilda’s Club NYC in the community, assist with events and initiatives, and provide volunteer service. Community service hours can be earned by providing volunteer service on the JAB. Learn how to join the JAB here.

Social Activities For Children & Teens

Social activities are offered throughout the year for children and their families, such as Noogie & Teen Family Fun Night which usually includes a movie and pizza, Noogiefest, our annual Halloween costume event, and Winter Wonderland, our holiday celebration.
